Tatting Tea Tuesday while on Vacation

I'm on vacation! Woo hoo!

But it's hot! We were out sight-seeing in the sun and the heat - oh, man! We were so glad to be able to sit down in the cool when we got home!

As I don't want to carry my regular tatting bag with me, but I do want to have a little something with me, I have had to come up with something else.

I just got a new pair of glasses and the case that came with them presented itself for a new job. I think it's working well. It's not exactly light, but carries just what I need, especially since the thread here is size 30. And the size 14 crochet hook won't poke through ; )

This piece that I'm working on started as a doodle on another road trip about a week ago and has been growing ever since. When I have the chance - and when I think I'm done with it - I'll share a picture with it laid out all nice and flat.

My tea today tasted suspiciously like coffee, but it was what was available. I did pick up an interesting tea that I'll be trying next week and sharing with you.

Until then, everyone have a safe and fun summer. Try to stay cool.

  2. Wishing you a holiday chock-full o'good times and happy memories!

Your doodle doily is exquisite! Can't wait to see the finished product.

One question about your tatting case...what do you use the needle-nose pliers for? Their presence has me quite intrigued. I can honestly say I have never used needle-nose pliers in tatting.

Beware tea that masquerades as coffee! (*giggles*)

  3. Thank you for sharing this. I am a needle tatter and after being poked for about the hundreth time while reaching into my bag I have been trying to come up with a solution for a way to quickly stash the needle and thread when I am on the go. This just may work. I will get a case tomarrow and try it out.

  4. Great idea for carrying your tatting but I have a question why do you carry pliers?

  5. Thanks, God's Kid. I'm surprised at how nice it looks myself.

Thanks, Isdihara. I'm hoping to have the doily done in a few days, if all things go well - and I don't decide to add another round!
And to you and TypsTatting, the pliers are very important. I have been known to close a ring before it's time(!). I use the crochet hook to pull just a little of the core thread out from between ds then grab it with the pliers. It's easier to pull the right direction with it and I don't have as much trouble with one of the stitches turning and creating a locked knot. I never leave home without it!

I hope a glasses case works for you mickchick831. The one I have actually holds more than I thought it would.

  6. I never thought about using a glasses case before - great idea! I think the dollar section at Target had a good selection of glasses cases at one time - maybe they'll do that again.

Hope you are enjoying your vacation :)

  7. Happy Bluebird I think I saw the idea on Intatters and it worked for me. Good luck on finding something that works for you.
Yes, we enjoyed our vacation tremendously! Too bad it's over!
