Tat Days Medallion Egg

Easter is less than a week away! Amazing! What is more amazing is me having an Easter pattern ready! LOL!

I made this pattern for Easter in 2022, and posted pictures again in 2023, but never wrote it out. I’ve finally finished writing the pattern. It’s available the My Patterns page.

I’ve also made progress on the Iris Cross pattern. Not quite done, but not far off. I thought I was closer, but after testing the pattern, I compared it to the original. Oops! Not quite the same! So I did it again. Correctly, I hope!

I’ve been having trouble with my computer. I’ve had it worked on, and I’ve deleted programs I’m not using. It is somewhat better, but still gives me grief by freezing up, showing white screens, and other issues. It has slowed down my attempts to work on patterns. I wonder if it is time to get another computer?

I’ve also finished another cross bookmark made especially for a young lady’s wedding shower. I wanted to include her wedding colors, which are navy blue, dusky rose, and sage. It came out well! I’ll share later.

The weather here is spring-y, going from cool to hot, and back again. I’m tatting spring-y things, as well as Easter things. Do you have anything for Easter on your shuttles?

Hippity Hop, It's a Hare

It’s spring, the season of flowers, blooming trees, and Easter. And Easter bunnies?

This time of year, a lot of us are looking for patterns of Easter eggs, bunnies, and crosses. Last year, for Tatting Corner’s Tat Days, I taught patterns for the Hare and Tortoise of race fame. It’s technically not a bunny, but it might work.

This pattern looks simple, but there is a lot of turning and switching shuttles. It doesn’t take long for the pattern to go quick, like a bunny. I enjoy making them enough that I have a whole fluffle!

I’ve been working on crosses and eggs, too. Hopefully, I’ll have something ready on them soon!

If you are interested in the Hare pattern, it is on My Patterns page.

Happy International Tatting Day 2025

April 1, the day many tatters around the world tat (maybe even in public!), eat chocolate, and enjoy a beverage of choice. Though we may not be close physically, we are close in spirit, sharing our joy in tatting by doing it intentionally today, together, on International Tatting Day.

Today, my sister, Elaine, and I tatted in the front area of the local YMCA after finishing our water exercise class. We enjoyed a few M&Ms and a beverage – she had water, and I had coffee – and tatted Muskaan’s E28 Heart, a derivative of Pattern #28 from Eleonore Endrucks’ “Die Schiffen-Spitszen’ (1920). I had seen Muskaan’s suggestion on Facebook that we should all try to tat a pattern from the Endrucks Project, #28. My sister and I had already agreed to tat there but it was to work on our current projects.

I chose two threads in size 10 and wound them on shuttles before leaving to exercise and surprised her with the idea. I brought the pattern and the shuttles, she brought the chocolate.

I think the spontaneity of working on this quick and fun pattern made the time spent together tatting so enjoyable. She’s only been tatting about a year, but she’s come a long way. Both of us finished our hearts within an hour.

I don’t always plan for ITD very far in advance. This year, I made paperclip bookmarks to give away if anyone showed interest. No one stopped by while we were tatting, so none were given away. I only had five left, anyway. I’ve been giving them away when people have talked to me about tatting for the last two weeks. At one point, I had 15. I didn’t even get a picture of all of them!
